A Word From The Principal's Office: Watt's Happening
|
Attendance Matters:
Our average attendance rates for periods 2–6 are holding steady around 85%, but we’ve noticed a drop to 79% in 1st period. Starting the day strong is key to academic success — consistent attendance is one of the most important factors in graduating on time. Thank you for helping your student arrive on time and ready to learn each morning!
End of Term & Conferences:
We’ve just wrapped up our first term grading window and family conferences. A big thank you to all the parents and guardians who met with teachers or connected by email. Your partnership plays a vital role in every student’s success.
Upcoming Events:
College & Career Night – November 3rd: Explore post–high school opportunities and connect with representatives who can help guide your student’s next steps.
Veterans Day Assembly – November 10th: Join us as we honor and celebrate those who have served our country.
Thanksgiving Break: A perfect time for students to rest, recharge, and catch up on any missing assignments before we head into the busy winter months.
Thank you for your continued support and for helping make PHS a great place for our students to learn and grow!

In today’s world, social media is where many of our students express themselves, connect with friends, and share their lives. But as fun and creative as that can be, it’s also important to remember that what we post lasts longer than we think. Every photo, comment, and story becomes part of a digital footprint. One that future schools, employers, and even teammates may see.
As a School Resource Officer, I’ve seen how a quick post or inside joke can sometimes lead to misunderstandings or consequences that students never intended. Families can make a huge difference by keeping the conversation open: talk with your teens about what they share, who they follow, and how their online presence reflects the person they’re becoming.
I like to remind students that your reputation doesn’t just live in the hallways, it lives online, forever. Let’s help our teens build a digital story they can be proud of. One that shows kindness, responsibility, and good judgment, the same qualities that make them shine in real life.

Red Ribbon Week was October 23-31 and Prairie students participated by wearing red and engaging in Red Ribbon Week activities on Monday 10/27. This year’s theme was: "Life Is A Puzzle, Solve It Drug Free." At school, students engaged in lessons and activities that promoted wellness. Please partner with us and discuss this message at home, at the dinner table, at family outings, and with friends and extended family.
Check out these “Talk. They Hear You.”® campaign resources to help you start—and keep up—the conversation about the dangers of drinking alcohol and using other drugs at a young age. https://www.samhsa.gov/substance-use/prevention/talk-they-hear-you/parent-resources

If you see or hear of a possible threat, please report it to law enforcement directly and/or to school staff. This is the best and most helpful action because it begins an investigation and helps to limit the potential for misinformation to spread. You can report bullying, intimidation, harassment, threats and safety concerns using our anonymous reporting system. Emergencies should always be reported to 911.
