Opportunities to review potential new high school SEL curriculum

Battle Ground Public Schools is considering new curriculum for social and emotional learning that would be used starting next school year, and eventually affect all high school students in the district. We believe that input from families and community members is essential to the process of adopting this new curriculum.

Over the past year, the district has reviewed different curricula and narrowed the options to one finalist, Wayfinder, that will be presented to the school board for their consideration. Now you have an opportunity to be involved:

  • Review all of the lessons

  • See the teaching materials

  • Ask questions

  • Provide feedback that will help inform the school board’s decision. The first reading of the proposed curriculum will be during the board of directors meeting on July 28, 2025. Get meeting information.

How to participate

Everyone is welcome, even if they do not currently have a child enrolled in a Battle Ground school.

  • Virtual review on Tuesday, June 10, at 6 p.m. Join the Zoom meeting. Due to copyright restrictions, this meeting will not be recorded.

  • Community review night Thursday, June 12, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at CASEE A  (11104 N.E. 149th St., Brush Prairie, WA 98606). Drop in anytime, no RSVP required.

  • By appointment June 2-June 22. To make an appointment, please email projectaware@battlegroundps.org or call Assistant Director of Project AWARE Erick Suksdorf at 360-885-5440.

  • View limited samples online. The full lessons and teaching materials can be viewed only during the review night or by appointment due to copyright restrictions.

After you have reviewed the curriculum, we invite you to provide your feedback by June 22.

Why this curriculum matters

The proposed curriculum would build on the social-emotional learning already in place for primary and middle school students since 2023. It aims to support high schoolers with essential life skills such as kindness, respect, communication, collaboration, self-confidence and adaptability. Past surveys of BGPS students, parents/guardians and staff members have pointed to the need for schools to teach character education and a variety of social and emotional skills.
If approved, the items would be purchased using funds from a grant that the district received in 2023.

End of school year schedule

The end of the 2024-25 school year is just around the corner. The final day of school for all buildings will be Wednesday, June 11. There will be early dismissal for most students on June 10 and 11. Please check the district website for the full end-of-year schedule and information on high school graduation ceremonies.

Skyward upgrade coming this summer

Battle Ground Public Schools will be transitioning to a newer version of Skyward - Family Access this summer. While we anticipate minimal disruption for parents, there are a few dates you should be aware of:

  • Sunday, July 6 - Last day to enroll a new student prior to the switch

  • July 7 - Aug. 3 - Family Access offline for parents and guardians

  • Monday, Aug. 4 - New system rollout begins

  • Monday, Aug. 11 (tentative)- Online enrollment resumes

NOTE: If you do not complete the online enrollment process prior to Skyward being taken offline on July 6, you will need to start the process from the beginning again when enrollment resumes.

Please watch for additional information over the summer and thank you for your patience.

Summer/fall checklist

Our summer and back-to-school checklist was sent to families at the end of May. It contains important information about summer meals and camps, at-home learning, credit recovery opportunities and much more. You’ll also find details about preparing for the upcoming school year. This information will also be available on the district website.

New FirstView bus app launching this month

New FirstView bus app launching this month

First Student, the district’s student transportation provider, has launched a new version of their FirstView bus tracking app. Please be aware that the older FirstView app will be disabled after mid-May.

The updated app will allow parents and guardians to securely monitor their child‘s daily trips, view near real-time bus locations, view updates or delay notifications and set up family members or caregivers to also receive trip alerts, plus much more. Please be aware that the code to access the parent side of the app is changing. It will be K1Q0K for the updated app.

More details are available on the district website.

Community Education summer camps now five days a week

Battle Ground Community Education will be offering a variety of summer camp opportunities five days a week! Pick from a selection of half-day camps, day camps or weekly camps. Activities include QuickStart sports camps, dance and cheer camps and workshops, SHAPE NW theme camps and the Prairie High School volleyball camp. Get more details and sign up on the BGCE website.

June school lunch menus

June school breakfast and lunch menus are  available via Nutrislice and the district website. Meal expenses can be paid through InTouch Receipting.

Boundary exceptions for 2025-26 school year

All families with in-district or out-of-district boundary exceptions (choice transfers) for the 2024-2025 school year need to reapply for the 2025-26 school year.

Please note a change to Choice Transfers for 2024-25 and beyond. Battle Ground Public Schools has switched from paper forms to an online application through the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Applications for out-of-district student Choice Transfers in 2025-26 will be accepted starting at 7 a.m. on May 1. Applications submitted prior to that date will be denied, and the family will need to submit a new application after May 1. Applications will be processed in the order in which they are received.

More information about this process and forms are on the district website.

Enroll now for kindergarten next fall

Any child who will be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2025, is eligible to enroll in kindergarten this fall. Enroll now to make sure your child can attend kindergarten orientation in the spring.
