Principal's ROAR - Eric Sakshaug

Hello Laurin Community!

Welcome Back. I want to tell you about how amazing your students are. I know first hand that coming back to school (especially middle school) is not easy. Just getting up in the morning is a challenge for many of us after enjoying the luxuries of summer time. In the first 7 days we have seen some major improvements to our school and it all has to do with two things; 1.) your students' effort  and 2.) our staff's willingness to demonstrate that we are about collective responsibility when it comes to keeping our school safe, both physically and emotionally, for each and every student.

So far your students have:

  • Successfully managed 6 periods a day for 7 days

  • Worked through the challenges of new procedures like, a new bell schedule, grade level PRIDE assemblies, new transitions and new boundaries for unstructured times like recess

  • Took advantage of our Social Emotional systems to help them learn to self regulate

  • Completely stopped the littering of our campus. Come and see!

I could sit here and brag about the changes Ms. Kai and I have implemented. But that would not be right. The truth is your student's rock and they are showing their PRIDE in a new and refreshing way. I am beyond pleased with the way they are responding to all the moving parts of our wonderful school. Please ask your students about how things are going. If you have a 5th grader, I'd love for you to know about their first PRIDE assembly.

We have surveyed the students on how they have felt in the first days of school and the responses are overwhelmingly positive. I want to thank you for raising such incredible young people who, I have no doubt, will be the future of our community and beyond.

With Love,

Mr. Saks

Bus routes posted and FirstView mobile app

Bus routes are now available online. For questions about school district bus service, call your school or First Student at 360-841-7099, ext. 103 or 104. Please be aware that the first several weeks of school can often see changes to routes as First Student makes adjustments. Any changes impacting riders will be communicated by your child’s school.

Due to road construction in many areas of the district, some buses may need to take a detour and/or may be delayed. For the most up-to-date route information, late alerts, notifications when your student is close to home, etc., we strongly recommend installing the FirstView mobile app, available through the Apple App Store and Google Play. PLEASE NOTE: The district code has changed this year. To use the app, enter the four-digit code LMWV. Get instructions for installing the app.

Share your back-to-school moments with us!

We are excited to welcome students back starting next week! Just take a photo of your child on their first day and post it to social media using #BGPSBack2School. Staff photos are welcome too! We'll share your photos in a fun video that will be posted on the district's Facebook and Instagram accounts (have you followed us there yet?). We're looking forward to seeing you!

Information and registration links for each middle school are on the district website. Students must have completed a sports physical prior to participating in their first practice. Physical clearance is good for 24 months.

Registration for each sport opens three weeks prior to the start of the season. Students who participate in middle school sports pay a one-time $40 fee per sport that covers some program costs such as transportation between games and officials. Find out if your family qualifies for waived activity fees. All fines and current fees must be paid before the first contest.

Consent to share

Students wishing to take advantage of no-fee sports or other activities must have a new meal benefit application and consent to share form (русский) (Español) on file before registering for fall sports, even if you had a previous approved application on file. The consent to share can also be completed as part of the annual student update through Skyward.
