Public review of proposed high school social-emotional learning curriculum

Battle Ground Public Schools is considering a new curriculum for social and emotional learning that would be used starting next school year, and eventually affect all high school students in the district. We believe that input from families and community members is essential to the process of adopting this new curriculum.

The first reading of the proposed curriculum will be during the school board's July 28 meeting. Prior to board consideration, there are several additional opportunities for parents, guardians, staff, students and community members to provide their input:

  • Virtual review night: Tuesday, June 10, starting at 6 p.m. via Zoom (meeting information). Due to copyright restrictions, this meeting will not be recorded.

  • In-person review night: Thursday, June 12, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at CASEE A  (11104 N.E. 149th St., Brush Prairie, WA 98606). Drop in anytime, no RSVP required.

  • By appointment: June 2-June 22. To make an appointment, please email projectaware@battlegroundps.org or call Assistant Director of Project AWARE Erick Suksdorf at 360-885-5440.

  • View limited samples online: *Online samples are limited due to copyright restrictions. To view the curriculum in its entirety, please attend one of the review nights or request an in-person appointment.

After you have reviewed the curriculum, we invite you to provide your feedback by June 22. You can also read more from people involved in the pilot process about their hopes and goals for the new curriculum.

Free summer meals available at two locations

Kids and teens ages 18 or younger can receive free meals at two Battle Ground schools starting on June 17. Meals will be served on weekdays at the following locations through Aug. 14 (except the Fourth of July).

Maple Grove Primary School, 610B SW Eaton Blvd., Battle Ground

  • Breakfast 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

  • Lunch 12 noon to 1 p.m.

CAM Academy, 406 NW 5th Ave., Battle Ground

  • Breakfast 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m.

  • Lunch 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Summer Food Service Program, sponsored by the district and funded primarily through a U.S. Department of Agriculture grant, helps provide nutritious meals during the summer months when children are not in school. Children and teens do not need to attend a Battle Ground school to participate. Meals must be consumed onsite (no curbside pickup).

SUN Bucks available this summer

Qualifying families can receive up to $120 per child through the Summer EBT program (known as SUN Bucks in Washington). SUN Bucks can be used to purchase food at retail locations like grocery stores, farmers markets, and corner stores.

Families who qualified for free or reduced meals and activities through the Child Nutrition Eligibility and Education program are eligible. Visit the state’s SUN Bucks page for more information and to apply. Please be aware that income eligibility limits are increasing starting July 1, 2025, so don’t delay!

Upcoming SAT testing: Reserve your spot

Students in grades 10-12 who are interested in taking the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) can register now for upcoming testing on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, and/or Saturday, March 14, 2026. The cost is $68 per student. Find out more details and register.

Update on 2025-26 budget process

A graph showing updates for a proposed budget
Click for full size

Due to some changes in our budget outlook, we will be able to preserve about 30% of the positions and programs that were initially slated for reduction next year. However, approximately 70% of the planned reductions will still move forward due to the loss of local levy funding.

See the list of positions and programs that will be preserved and what will remain on the cut list, and find out how these decisions were made.

For more information and to remain updated throughout this process, please follow our budget cuts webpage.

Boundary exceptions for 2025-26 school year

All families with in-district or out-of-district boundary exceptions (choice transfers) for the 2024-2025 school year need to reapply for the 2025-26 school year. Starting this year, Battle Ground Public Schools has switched from paper forms to an online application through the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction. Get more information about this process.

Report, don’t repost

If you see or hear of a possible threat, please report it to law enforcement directly and/or to school staff. This is the best and most helpful action because it begins an investigation and helps to limit the potential for misinformation to spread. You can report bullying, intimidation, harassment, threats and safety concerns using our anonymous reporting system. Emergencies should always be reported to 911.
