For creating a positive learning environment in which all staff members, parents and guardians work together to benefit students, River HomeLink is one of just 21 Washington schools selected to receive the inaugural School on the Rise award, presented by the Association of Washington Student Leaders and Association of Washington School Principals.

"This award is a testament to the level of collaboration and dedication that exists within the River HomeLink community,” said Principal Matt Kesler. “By fostering an inclusive environment where families and staff work hand-in-hand, we empower our students to thrive at home and in the classroom. We are grateful for our staff, students, families and community for their ongoing commitment to our mission.”

Congratulations to everyone at River HomeLink! You can learn more about this achievement on the district website.

Prairie senior signs Navy enlistment with classmates and family

A student doing a swearing in ceremony

Usually, when somebody enlists in a branch of the U.S. armed services, it is done in a quiet ceremony held at the local recruiter's office. But Prairie High School senior Alisha Sundar wanted to hold the ceremony in front of her JROTC instructors and classmates, parents and brother.

"You have been a joy to have in the program," said Lt. Col. Todd Oller. "You have excelled in everything you do. Sergeant (Christopher) Williams and I have relied on you heavily, and we're both very proud for you to take this next step."

"Thank you to everyone who has supported me," Sundar said. "The day I walked in by accident I had no idea I was going to do this. But I'm very glad I did."

Sundar will be joining the Navy's medical corps, meaning she could serve her enlistment pretty much anywhere in the world. Best of luck in this next adventure!
